Japanese Investors Arrive
Tuesday May 21, 2013
Acting Prime Minister Dr. Puka Temu has hailed the visit of a high level Japanese investment delegation
as demonstration of confidence in the Somare-Temu Government.
Dr. Temu expressed this after meeting with senior executives of corporations in Japan, who have shown great interest in developing the gas insustry in PNG.
The most members of the delegation are expected to leave the country on Wednesday this week, while others will remain to conduct other business.

Climate Change
The Government is yet to create a contingency plan which addresses
the long term effects of climate change
With the launching of new strategic direction, the Department through
the new Environment and Conservation Minister is looking to address
the problem using a whole of government approach.
Debt Servicing
The Somare-Temu Government is committed to repaying its debts, but
this will not deter its focus on growing the economy and spending money
for the benefit of its people.
Finance and Treasury Minister Patrick Pruaitch highlighted this when
explaining the Government's position on debt servicing on the FM 100
talk back show yesterday.
Mr. Pruaitch said the Government has done well so far, reducing its
K8 billion debt down to 7 billion at the end of last year.
Illau insurbordination
The Forest Minister, Belden Namah, has lashed out at PNGDF Commander,
Peter Illau over comments that it would be difficult to relocate the
two army bases in Wewak and Vanimo to Bewani.
In media reports Commodore Illau said that a relocation would be difficult
given the family situation of soldiers and the costs involved in relocation.
But the former PNGDF Officer said Commodore Illau should be more worried
about running the force than about costs as that was a government responsibility.
